SLC are now representing Explore Central North Island, a collaboration of eight regional tourism organisations in New Zealand’s Central North Island. Destinations represented by Explore Central North Island consist of: Coromandel, Bay of Plenty, Tairawhiti-Gisborne, Hawke’s Bay, Ruapehu, Lake Taupo, Hamilton & Waikato, and Rotorua – the host of TRENZ in May 2019.
Abbie Downes will be your contact, she would love to have the opportunity to discuss the region with you, it encompasses so much of the essence of New Zealand which are a ‘must see’ on any New Zealand itinerary and also the iconic driving routes of the: Pacific Coast Highway, Thermal Explorer Highway and the Volcanic Loop.
Jason Dawson, Chairperson for eXplore Central North Island said collectively the eight regions of New Zealand present a compelling itinerary for UK travellers which include some of New Zealand’s must-do attractions, as well as a vast array of emerging, off-the-beaten-track experiences.“Your Central North Island journey begins just 60 minutes south of Auckland Airport including some of the most iconic and popular east coast beaches, the spiritual home of surf on the west coast, the heart of geothermal and volcanic activity in New Zealand, the home of the Maori King and Maori culture, the northern ski resort, the country’s largest lake, popular short walks and cycling trails, the first place in the world to see the sun and the iconic award-winning region of wine,” says Mr Dawson.
“Another great advantage of Central North Island is the ease of getting around year-round, with spring and autumn providing more opportunity to explore at your leisure. It’s a place where you can truly unwind, seek adventure or enjoy the finer things in life,” he added.

With a night sky free from light pollution filled with millions of stars, our favourite Port Douglas nature retreat Thala Beach is the perfect place for star gazing. Thala has it’s very own observatory to offer complimentary star gazing to guests on different nights of the week. Using a light beam Thala gives an introduction to some beautiful Southern Constellations, most of which cannot be seen at all from Europe or North America. Thala also gives guests the opportunity to use astronomical binoculars and telescopes to get a closer look at Thala’s celestial neighbours, red giants, star clusters and distant galaxies.
Thala is the ultimate spot to watch the centre of our Milky Way pass almost directly overhead and gain new insights into the rich and beautiful mysteries above the Land Down Under. Star gazing is just one of the many complimentary activities available at Thala Beach Nature Reserve, for more information please contact abbie@slcrepresentation.co.uk.

August will see the opening of a stunning new development in Noosa. Habitat Noosa is a new eco-camping experience, located 25 minutes north from the heart of Noosa at the beautiful Elanda Point. The impressive development sprawls over 65 acres of bushland where you will be able to stay overnight in glamping tents with ensuites under the stars…..and lots of kangaroos.
The purpose built project is the first of its kind in Australia, offering a range of facilities and activities on the banks of a beautiful lake and close to the entrance of the Noosa Everglades.
Onsite, there is a restaurant using local produce and a small craft brewery both with polished concrete floors, grey panelled walls, warm timber features, a slick brick bar and a comforting stone fireplace for the winter months. Outside will offer a cinema screen, 9-hole golf course, outdoor seating and access to a range of water sports including canoeing, kayaking, SUP’ing and sailing.
The well-known and award winning Discovery Group will be based at Habitat Noosa, offering their Noosa Everglades cruise finishing with lunch at the CootharaBAR bistro as well as their one day tours to nearby Fraser Island. The area also offers numerous bushwalking trails, over 45% of Australia’s bird species and a huge variety of flora and fauna for an authentic Australian escape – but still so close to Noosa’s restaurants, accommodation, attractions and sparkling beaches.
