Akaryn Hotel Group aims to become a single-use plastic free hotel company by 2020

AHGAkaryn Hotel Group aims to become a single-use plastic free hotel company by 2020. The Group’s newest opening, akyra TAS Sukhumvit Bangkok, launching in May 2018, is set to lead the charge in this initiative by becoming the first new hotel in Asia to launch without single-use plastic in its rooms or food and beverage outlets.

An environmental and social conscience is deeply rooted in the philosophy behind Akaryn Hotel Group’s Aleenta and akyra hotel brands with eco-led decisions and policies playing a central role in business development and hotel operations.

Anchalika Kijkanakorn (below), founder and managing director of Akaryn Hotel Group wants this philosophy to extend even further into the guest experience at the soon-to-open akyra TAS Sukhumvit Bangkok.

“Our eco-friendly approach in Bangkok began by sourcing glass bottles and containers, with a commitment to no single-use plastic used in the restaurants or bars. The hotel will extend the initiative for guests on the go with stylish akyra stainless steel water bottles presented on arrival that can be refilled anytime during their stay,” she explained.

The two are perfectly combinable on a trip form Adelaide into the Aussie Outback.
Owned and managed by fourth generation locals Tony and Julieanne Smith, the team at Rawnsley Park Station ensures all guests experience authentic Outback hospitality. The accommodation is located over-looking the southern side of Wilpena Pound in South Australia’s Flinders Ranges.
Rawnsley Park’s luxury eco-villas are set on a private and secluded site with uninterrupted views of Wilpena Pound, yet within easy reach of the main facilities. Alternative accommodation includes holiday units, a caravan park and some of the best campsites you’ll find in the Flinders, as well as the newly completed Arkapena Homestead, complete with two bedrooms, a private pool and an alfresco entertaining area.

Qantas introduces Quokka to promote extraordinary WA

Qantas introduces Quokka to promote extraordinary WA

QANTAS SoA Logo Horiz Red jpegQantas’ third Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner will be named after the iconic and much-loved West Australian marsupial, the Quokka. Made famous around the world for being one of the happiest animals on Earth, and known to enjoy a selfie with tourists including tennis superstar Roger Federer, the Quokka is the perfect name for Qantas’ Dreamliner.

Last year Tourism WA put out a call for the WA tourism industry and public to nominate the name Quokka for one of Qantas’ eight Dreamliners. The name was one of the most popular suggestions in a national poll of more than 60,000 entries. Tourism WA’s Executive Director Strategy, Brand and Marketing Services Louise Scott said it was fantastic to see Qantas’ third Dreamliner adopt the name Quokka, providing fantastic exposure for Western Australia.

“It makes perfect sense for WA to be represented by the Quokka, especially with the direct London to Perth flights launching for the first time in March,” she said.

“We hope international visitors to WA will have an opportunity to experience this friendly local on Rottnest Island and enjoy everything our State has to offer.”

Quokka, which has the official registration of VH-ZNC, will operate new the Perth to London route as well as other Dreamliner routes to the United States. It is currently undergoing final delivery in Seattle and is expected to land in Australia in late January. Quokka will also be joined by a Dreamliner called Skippy later this year. Qantas’ first two Dreamliner aircraft have been named Great Southern Land and Waltzing Matilda. Each name is painted beneath cockpit window. The sequencing of the remaining names will be revealed as the aircraft are delivered.
